Explore the ingredients grown\, raised\, and harvested locally\, and uncover the lasting influence of Indigenous Marylanders\, British settlers\, and African Americans in shaping the region’s foundational cuisine. You’ll also take a closer look at the fascinating array of imported goods that arrived by ship—from spices and fine cheeses to tamarind\, Durham mustard\, and isinglass—offering a glimpse into Maryland’s connections to a wider global marketplace. \nJoyce White is a food historian\, educator\, and consultant specializing in historic foodways and material culture.  Joyce works as an independent consultant to historic sites and museums. She presents engaging lectures and programs on a wide range of food history topics\, writes for publications including Outlook by the Bay\, MarylandRoadTrips.com\, and Chesapeake Family Magazine\, and creates historically accurate faux food displays for museum interpretation.
